A potential replacement for Arsene Wenger is being courted by Barcelona according to the Spanish press.
Catalan based newspaper Sport has claimed there’s no chance of Tata Martino keeping his job for next season and the potential replacement being discussed in Spain is a coach who has also been linked with the top job at the Emirates, Jurgen Klopp.
The Spanish paper claims the German is the man Barca have identified as Martino’s replacement in a season where the Spanish champions were dumped out of the Champions League by Atletico Madrid and look unlikely to retain their La Liga crown.
“The club will have a new coach next season. Gerardo Martino signed a contract for two seasons but the second one won’t be fulfilled – The contract can be broken by an escape clause,” reads the report on Sport’s website.
Klopp would be a superb replacement for Arsene Wenger at Arsenal and there has been speculation Wenger could lose his job if the Gunners fail to win the FA Cup and finish outside the top four in the Premier League.
It’s no surprise that a potential scrap and tug of war could break out for one of Germany’s most talented managers because the list of positives created by having Klopp in charge is numerous.
He’s credited with the development of several players who have been linked with big money moves to Arsenal and he could relish the chance to go to a club where he doesn’t have to sell players under pressure to his greatest rivals.
Arsenal fans shouldn’t be too downbeat because there’s an awful lot which needs to happen before Klopp is snapped up by another club and there’s still a lot of support for Wenger to lead the club after this season and beyond.
Klopp is under contract until 2018 and any boss who can break the dominance of a side like Bayern Munich is going to have his courters.
Arsenal stand a better chance of attracting him if Martino keeps his job but for a position to be created, they’ll have to force out the best boss the club has ever had in its history.
