There are plenty of talking points to mull over after the latest round of weekend Premier League games.
Liverpool and Chelsea have strengthened their positions at the top of the table while there were good results for Cardiff, Crystal Palace and Fulham at the other end of the spectrum.
Here is HITC’s Premier League Team of the Week.
GK – David Marshall (Cardiff City)
Marshall is becoming a regular in this feature and he produced another fine performance in Cardiff’s away win at Southampton.
RB – Adrian Mariappa (Crystal Palace)
Mariappa was superb against Aston Villa and gave a very complete performance for a right-back. He was solid defensively and played well going forward.
CB – John Stones (Everton)
Another very fine performance from the young man in the difficult environment of Sunderland. He seems to take every challenge with ease at the moment.
CB – Cala (Cardiff City)
Scored and played solidly defensively. Exactly what any manager would ask for from one of their most important centre backs.
LB – Jon Flanagan (Liverpool)
What a player this guy is turning out to be. Played well in the face of different Manchester City players who like to control the ball down his side of the pitch.
RM – James Milner (Manchester City)
Milner is never going to be the most exciting or aggressive player but he offers control wherever he plays and allowed City to control things against Liverpool in the second-half.
CM – Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)
A captain’s performance against Manchester City, he got stuck in and kept everyone switched on when Liverpool were on the back foot during the game.
CM – Nemanja Matic (Chelsea)
Chelsea look like a much better team when Matic is in the starting side and pulling the strings in front of the back four. He breaks up the play like it’s second nature.
LM – Philippe Coutinho (Liverpool)
Coutinho showed great awareness to pounce on a mistake from Vincent Kompany and score what turned out to be the winner at Anfield.
ST – Demba Ba (Chelsea)
Two important goals within seven days for the Chelsea forward. He’s put a little bit of pressure on Jose Mourinho to use him more over the rest of the season.
ST – Hugo Rodallega (Fulham)
He was a little wasteful with the accuracy of some of his shooting but he bagged an important goal, which enabled an important three points.
