Arsenal’s FA Cup run has been a huge relief for Arsene Wenger and his players, but Everton’s consistent Premier League run could yet damper the mood around North London.
Whilst cup runs are important, financially for Arsene Wenger and his men, a top four spot was always the priority this season, especially when their form dipped so heavily in February and March.
Whilst Arsenal celebrated their FA Cup semi-final triumph, Everton were arguably Saturday’s biggest winner as they beat Sunderland and leapt above a tired looking Arsenal, who play West Ham United on Tuesday, in to fourth spot.
With just five games remaining, Arsenal are reliant on winning their games and hoping for Roberto Martinez’s side to slip up along the way.
In a report by The Mirror, Arsenal star Lukas Podolski has reassured supporters that they won’t rest on their laurels and that a top four spot in the Premier League remains as important as ever.
"We are now in the final and of course we want the cup, but the other important thing is the league. We don't forget that because we are fifth now, so it's important to get fourth place back.”
"But as I say, the important thing is the league as well. We don't forget the league because we are fifth now, we are not qualified for the Champions League, so we must do our work on the pitch - starting on Tuesday and this is an important thing."
