Tim Sherwood compares Christian Eriksen to Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp

Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood has compared playmaker Christian Eriksen to Dennis Bergkamp after a superb display against West Brom.

Eriksen, 22, arrived at White Hart Lane last summer from Ajax despite many of Europe's finest clubs queuing up to secure his signature, as Andre Villas-Boas landed an £11.5m coup for the Danish playmaker.

It hasn't been a surprise to see that Eriksen has taken the Premier League by storm, giving a number of outstanding displays and being one of the few Spurs players to come out of this underwhelming season with any credit.

Saturday's performance against West Brom was yet another great showing from Eriksen, whose injury time leveller rescued a point for Tottenham, who were 3-0 down in the first half after a shocking defensive display.

Manager Tim Sherwood heaped praise on his star midfielder, comparing him favourably to former Arsenal star Dennis Bergkamp - who also made his name in Holland with Ajax before becoming a household figure in North London.

"Eriksen is one who just can't be left out. He's Bergkamp-esque," said Sherwood.

"You want someone to rush those chances, as an opposition manager, but when it lands to him you know he's going to be ice cold.

"Once he cut inside I knew the net was catching the ball," the Spurs boss added.

It's lofty praise to compare Eriksen to a Premier League great, but his touch and creativity in possession does lend itself to such a comparison - even if the Dane has some way to go before is remembered as fondly as Bergkamp is.
