PICTURE: Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand looks miserable, hits out at Twitter critics

Rio Ferdinand

Manchester United ace Rio Ferdinand was a guest on BT Sport, where he said he wants to stay at the club.

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand was a guest pundit on BT Sport on Sunday afternoon, and didn't he look miserable?

The photo of the former England captain looking less than excited was posted by presenter Jake Humphrey, during his appearance for the FA Cup semi-final between Hull City and Sheffield United.

Could the snap have anything to do with the fact former Liverpool hero Steve McManaman was speaking, pictured on the right just out of shot in the picture above? It was just hours after the Reds had taken a major step towards the Premier League title by beating Manchester City 3-2 after all.

In likelihood it was just a peculiar snapshot of Ferdinand's stint, which did contain a serious message.

He revealed that he is very keen to secure a contract extension at United, with his contract set to expire this June, still apparently unclear over what his future holds.

He said: "I want to continue playing - that's the aim, whether that be at Manchester United or somewhere else - that is up to the club.

"I'm living the dream and want that to continue, but we will have to wait and see at the end of the season."

Ferdinand has barely been used this campaign however, restricted to just nine starts, and was dropped for the key Champions League clash away to Bayern last week.

He did put in an impressive performance in the first leg, showing that he might just be a useful player to have around with captain Nemanja Vidic leaving.

Manager David Moyes has spoken previously of his desire to give the younger defenders a chance between now and the end of the season, ahead of the challenge of bringing in summer recruits.

The defender did little to dissuade however that he may have been in a negative mood, by last night hitting out at his critics on Twitter.
