On this day: Benteke bosses Liverpool, Wilshere new deal and Fellaini headbutt

Benteke 2

On the 15th December 2012 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Aston Villa, Liverpool, Arsenal and Everton.

I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 15th December 2013, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 15th December 2012…

Christian belief

Aston Villa gave Liverpool a right pasting at Anfield. It was the Christian Benteke show as the Belgian striker ran rampant against a Liverpool side who had only recently begun to look like the real deal under the stewardship of new manager Brendan Rodgers.

Benteke scored twice and assisted the other for Andreas Weimann.

Today, a year on, Benteke has just made it ten games without a win as he toiled against Manchester United.

Don't hit the road Jack

Arsenal were reportedly set to make a move to secure Jack Wilshere to a new long-term deal. The midfielder had just returned to full first-team action after a lengthy spell on the side-lines with a succession of ankle injuries.

The deal was rumoured to be five years long and worth £80k-a-week.

This proved true - and just four days later Arsenal announced that he had signed a new deal with four other starlets.

On ya head!

It was one of the more bizarre incidents of the Premier League season from a man now playing for Manchester United.

Maraoune Fellaini head-butted Ryan Shawcross whilst waiting for Everton to deliver a corner kick and was forced to make an apology online:

"I apologise completely to Ryan Shawcross, my team-mates and to our fans at the game."

He was subsequently banned for three games.
