Manchester United prospect Jesse Lingard singles out Ryan Giggs as his hero

Manchester United whizkid Jesse Lingard has made a real name for himself this season, despite not playing for the club.

England under-21 international Jesse Lingard impressed in pre-season, then netted four goals on his loan debut at Birmingham, with many calling for him to be given a chance in the first team at United upon his return.

He is currently on loan at Brighton and Hove Albion, where he has netted twice in his past two games.

Speaking to Manchester United's official website, he says he is keen to get back to Old Trafford and start fighting for a place in the first team next season.

Whether the man he lauds as his hero will be there is another matter. Lingard went onto explain that it is none other than Ryan Giggs who he holds in the highest regard:

"Growing up at United, Ryan Giggs is my hero, he is one of those flair players that excites fans. I like players who run at people and dribbling is one of my main attributes. People love to see it – you have to get the supporters out of their seats."

Giggs' future at United from a playing perspective is still unresolved, with his contract not yet renewed for next season. This season is currently the first the 40-year-old has failed to score for the Red Devils.

Assistant boss to manager David Moyes, the Express reported at the end of last month that Giggs could be set for an entire exit from the club, with the pair rumoured to have fallen out.

Whether he gets a chance to play alongside or select Lingard for United's first team next season remains to be seen.
