Laurent Blanc explains Manchester United target Cavani's poor recent form

The PSG boss has stated that the Uruguayan’s mediocre performances of late are down to the fact that the forward’s thoughts are on the World Cup.

Edinson Cavani has been waiting for an opportunity to play centre forward for Paris Saint-Germain all season – and has been handed his chance with Zlatan Ibrahimovic currently injured.

However, despite the Uruguayan getting his wish to be moved centrally, the former Napoli man has failed to deliver over the last couple of games.

Cavani was ineffective against Chelsea in the Champions League and also put in an underwhelming performance in PSG’s 1-0 defeat to Lyon on Sunday.

Laurent Blanc has explained why Cavani has not been at his best, stating that the South American is frightened of suffering another serious injury ahead of this summer’s World Cup.

"Cavani had a serious injury and he wants to play in the World Cup. He's afraid of a recurrence. Unconsciously, it's necessary that he relaxes,” Blanc is quoted as saying in Canal+.

"I feel we could have played a long time without scoring a goal. That is rare for PSG."

Cavani will play against England alongside Luis Suarez for the South American nation this summer in Group D.

Regardless of Cavani not being at his best recently, the striker will surely be a star at the World Cup.
