Tottenham latest, defender slams starts to games, on-loan midfielder hopeful over future

A selection of the latest stories involving Tottenham Hotspur this Monday evening

Younes Kaboul has said that Tottenham must stop leaking early goals like they did in the 3-3 draw with West Bromwich Albion at the weekend, where Spurs had to come from 3-0 down to salvage a point.

Kaboul is quoted saying: “We cannot start the game like we did, conceding three goals in half an hour.

“To be honest with you, I cannot give you an explanation. It has happened a lot of times this season. Maybe it’s all about concentration.

“This time the first goal came after about 30 seconds - very quickly, it was almost game over. In the Premier League, you cannot start like that. We put everything into coming back in this game, which we did."

Midfielder Lewis Holtby has told TalkSport he is still hopeful of a future at White Hart Lane, despite being sent on loan to Fulham in the January window.

Holtby said: “I signed a long contract at Tottenham and I was hoping to have a long future at the club. I still believe I can do that. I have the qualities to play for Tottenham.”

Head Coach Tim Sherwood has compared Christian Eriksen to former Arsenal forward Dennis Bergkamp after his equalising goal at the weekend.

Sherwood was quoted, saying: “You want someone to rush those chances as an opposition manager but when it lands to him you know he’s going to be ice cold.

“Once he cut inside I knew the net was catching the ball.”

Kyle Naughton was delighted that the side managed to recover from 3-0 down to salvage a point and that it was something they deserved.

He told the Tottenham website: “We made a few mistakes, the back four as a whole, but we got it together in the second half and came back strongly. We looked good after that.

“At 3-2, we all thought we could do it. There was still plenty of time to go as well.

“Even though we were behind I thought we could get another one, even two, and we got a deserved draw in the end.”
