Manchester United’s scouts may have been wise to buy a season-ticket for Sporting Lisbon this season, such is the regularity with which they have been seen watching the Portuguese side.
William Carvalho is the player David Moyes is reportedly keen to keep very close tabs on, with those scouting missions now pushing 20 for the campaign. And United staff were reportedly in attendance again on Saturday as Sporting defeated Gil Vicente 2-0.
Neither of United’s reported targets – William or Carlos Mane – got on the score-sheet. But the victory maintained Sporting’s impressive campaign which has been influenced in no small part by the midfield general with the reported €45million release-clause.
Perhaps that is why Moyes is so keen to have him watched at every available opportunity. After all, when such figures are on the table you have to be certain your target is the right one. But United are not the only club to have kept tabs on Sporting’s players this weekend.
According to Portuguese newspaper Record, Arsenal also had scouts in attendance, as did Real Madrid and Malaga.
The report claims those were the only four clubs with scouts at the match – which is considerably less than have been seen at matches earlier this season.
But perhaps the other clubs have already made up their minds about William and any other players they may have been watching. But as for United and Arsenal, it seems those scouting missions could keep on all season.
