When the average football fan thinks of La Liga’s most prolific goalscorers, goal machines Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are the names which naturally spring to mind.
But while the world’s top two players rank highly in the current list of most prolific goalscorers in La Liga, the duo are pipped by Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata.
According to Spanish press AS, Morata has notched six goals in just 282 minutes of football – a goal every 47 minutes
Argentina maestro Messi is currently in second place, scoring a goal on average every 82 minutes. Morata’s teammate, and Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo follows in third, averaging a goal every 85 minutes.
The Spanish U21 international is a natural-born predator in front of goal, and it’s his in-the-box instincts which have atttracted the attentions of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.
Arsenal have been linked with the 21-year-old star for much of the season, and the club are thought to have been very close in bringing him to the Emirates on a loan-deal during the January transfer window.
Although the deal never happened, Arsenal's interest has remained - in fact, in March rumours began to circulate that Morata had already agreed to join Arsenal on a five-year deal this summer – though this has yet to be confirmed by either club or player.
With Arsenal desperate to boost their attacking options for next season, the Real Madrid starlet is an obvious candidate for and would surely be worth the £25m the club would need to pay to get him.
