Arsenal’s lack of strength in depth at centre forward has been a key issue for the Emirates Stadium faithful this season, with many Gunners fans questioning whether Olivier Giroud and Yaya Sanogo can take the club to the next level.
As such, a new striker must be on Arsene Wenger’s radar this summer, with plenty of targets being linked to the North London club in the media.
The Daily Star Sunday have stated today that the French coach is a big admirer of Benfica’s Rodrigo, and will make a £15 million raid for the Brazilian-born attacker at the end of the season.
The naturalised Spaniard has played a significant role in the Estadio da Luz outfit’s rise to the top of the Portuguese Primeira Liga, scoring ten goals in 20 starts for the club this term.
Rodrigo spent an ill-fated loan spell at Bolton Wanderers from Real Madrid a couple of years ago, but has since become highly regarded in Portugal.
The report’s claim that Arsenal will offer £15m could well be an offer that Benfica will instantly reject, as O Jogo claimed the Portuguese club sold Rodrigo’s economic rights to Incidental Meriton Capital Limited for €30m in January.
