Leeds fans were obviously pleased with the performance of their midfielder yesterday.
As one of Crewe Alexandra’s former starlet’s got ready for an FA Cup semi-final for Wigan Athletic his former partner in crime at Gresty Road was bringing joy to Leeds United fans after what has been a torrid time at Elland Road.
The club went into their game against Blackpool at Elland Road in terrible form. They had lost their previous six games - conceding 11 goals and scoring two in that time.
And off the pitch circumstances would not have been helping matters.
The club had seen a takeover attempt from Massimo Cellino collapse as it became increasingly clear that GFH Capital had no long term interest in the club’s security at heart.
Cellino however appealed the decision - and won - hopefully, it seems, bringing an end to the instability in the board room at Elland Road.
And they looked more comfortable against a struggling Blackpool side yesterday.
However it was indeed Luke Murphy who stole the show.
The young midfield starlet signed in the summer for a fee in the region of £1 million - turning down Wolves and Blackburn Rovers to make the move to Yorkshire.
So far he has not had the impact many would have liked.
That is not to say that he has had a bad season - it has been good, but you feel more was expected of him despite his relative youth.
He arrived with a real weight of expectation on his shoulders - and despite his obvious talent games have often drifted him by this campaign.
Well not yesterday.
He scored two wonderful strikes, both coming from his only shots in the game, and they proved the difference in a 2-0 victory over The Seasiders.
Murphy has been one of the players criticised by fans in recent weeks - and rightly so as he has not been performing at the level expected of him.
But this brace sees him take his goal tally to three for the season and is hopefully the pre-cursor to a good end to the season - which in turn leads into a positive 2014-15.
And here is some of the reaction to his performance on Twitter:
