Former Chelsea youth star Jacopo Sala achieved a milestone in an eventful Serie A clash on Sunday.

Chelsea's attempts to sign 'the next big thing' over the years means there are numerous ex-Blues scattered around Europe, and one is Jacopo Sala.

The Italian (pictured right) celebrated his first ever goal in Serie A yesterday, netting for Hellas Verona in a 5-3 home loss to Fiorentina.

Sala signed for Chelsea in 2007 from Atalanta as a teenager, but the right-back was unable establish himself at Stamford Bridge.

He failed to play a first team game before being sold to Hamburg in 2011, but was part of the side which won the FA Youth Cup in 2010.

His time in the Bundesliga was underwhelming, making just 21 appearances, but at least it was a step in the right direction, able to play first team football for the first time.

Last summer he was sold to Hellas Verona, and still only 22-years-old, has taken his time to make an impression.

The weekend's fixture was only his fourth start for Serie A's ninth placed side since arrival, with seven further substitute appearances to his name.

He netted the opener in the 5-3 defeat, featuring in midfield, during a match in which he completed 88 per cent of his passes and won three tackles.

It's early to say whether this will be the start of his career kicking on, but it was a notable milestone for the youngster in terms of attempting to establish himself in his homeland.
