They do not come much bigger than this. A win for Liverpool this afternoon and they will take a huge stride towards their first Premier League title, but victory for Manchester City and few would bet against them reclaiming the crown.
City may have two games in hand over the Reds, but that will suddenly look far less impressive if Brendan Rodgers’ side takes a seven point lead over Manuel Pellegrini’s men. But it will also be a sombre day at Anfield as the 25th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster is marked, and it will be interesting to see how the home side react on the pitch.
City have not lost any of their last five league matches against today’s opponents. But the Reds have been defeated just once in their previous 16 home league matches against the Blues and that was back in 2003.
Having won their last nine games, Liverpool will be confident. But City have been at this stage of a Premier League title-race before, and they know how to deal with the pressure. Whatever happens, it is a must-watch game for fans and neutrals alike.
What do you think the result will be this afternoon?
