Jadeveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina

6ft 6in | 274lbs | Junior

Positives

+ Prototypical size for an NFL pass rusher either as a 4-3 defensive end or 3-4 outside linebacker.

+ Displays an incredible first step to blaze by blockers, something few pass rushers can match.

+ Converts speed to power to devastating effect, enabling him to power rush as well as get around the edge.

+ Strength and shedding ability makes him adept against the run.

+ One of the most disruptive players in college football throughout his career, recording 24 sacks and 47 tackles for a loss.

+ Freakish athletic ability gives him transcendent upside, with speed, strength and lateral movement just waiting to be coached up.

+ Can affect the passing game by swatting the ball with timing and arm length.

Negatives

- Work ethic questions, seemed to take plays off in 2013.

- Had a down year production-wise.

- Needs to refine his technique, has been able to win through athletic ability so far in college and will need more in the NFL.

- Lack of experience as a 3-4 linebacker in terms of dropping into coverage, though not a huge concern.

- Doesn't quite bend around the edge like you'd want him to.

- Off-field misdemeanours - caught speeding twice in last few months.

- Had a number of injury issues in 2013.

Grade: Top five pick and #1 player available.
