2014 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Clemson WR Sammy Watkins

Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson

6ft 1in | 205lbs | Junior

+ Outstanding speed.

+ Shows gamebreaking ability after the catch, frequently out-running defenders to make huge plays.

+ Tough competitor and it shows when making catches in traffic and in his blocking ability.

+ Good hands catcher, rarely lets the ball get into his body.

+ Has the skill set to work all areas of the field; short, intermediate and deep.

+ Uses his speed to good effect off the line of scrimmage, often too quick for the opposing cornerback.

+ Showed freakish body control to adjust to wayward passes from QB Tajh Boyd.

- Was asked to run a limited route tree at Clemson - will be asked to do a lot more in the NFL.

- Off field issue in 2012 that he may be questioned on.

- Suffered some niggling injuries in college.

- Doesn't possess outstanding size.

- Still a little raw and will need some developing at the next level.

- Was rarely used on deep balls but certainly has the ability and skill set to do it.

Grade: Top five pick.
