Yaya Toure hails City’s £30m man: ‘He is a very clever player’

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has hailed teammate Fernandinho.

When Fernandinho arrived at Manchester City last summer, those in the know tipped their cap at one of the canniest pieces of transfer business for many a season.

The majority of Premier League fans may not have known much about the former Shakhtar Donetsk player, but those who did were aware just what Manuel Pellegrini had brought in for a reported fee of around £30million.

The Brazilian is now well and truly installed in the City midfield and continues to play a huge role in a side seeking to reclaim the Premier League title amidst the twin-challenge of Liverpool and Chelsea.

But taking time out from title-talk, City midfielder Yaya Toure has been praising his midfield partner in an interview with the Daily Mail.

In quotes later published by Sambafoot, Toure said, “He’s very clever. Brazilians play pretty, fantastic football and Fernandinho is clever. He anticipates well. He presses well.

“His movement is so good but he can play with the ball as well. Before he came to City, he was at Shakhtar playing in my position, more as an offensive midfielder.

“But we are doing well and he helps me a lot.”

He certainly does, and if City do go on to lift the Premier League title this season, it will have much to do with a midfield the envy of many. But that said, there is still plenty of work to do, starting on Sunday at Anfield…
