Tottenham morning news: Early team news & van Gaal’s defensive target

A select round-up of news relating to Tottenham Hotspur...

Tottenham Hotspur face West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns this afternoon, knowing that any slip-up from Everton could still see their hopes of finishing fifth reignited.

In early team news, the BBC reports that Spurs boss Tim Sherwood is expected to choose from the same squad who performed so impressively against Sunderland last time out.

Mousa Dembele, Roberto Soldado and Etienne Capoue remain side-lined.

In other news, the Times reports that Tim Sherwood believes Tottenham should not have put so much hope in players last summer who had no previous experience of the Premier League.

None of the players brought in by Daniel Levy prior to the new campaign had any experience of England’s top flight, and it will be interesting – whoever is in charge come July – if Spurs adopt a different approach to signings during the next window.

And finally, the Mirror claims Ajax defender Joel Veltman will be one of Louis van Gaal’s primary transfer targets should he replace Sherwood this summer.

Knowing the player well through his position as Dutch national coach, van Gaal is said to have the edge if Veltman does swap clubs.
