'No limits' - Manchester United target Koke reveals why he preferred Atletico stay

Manchester United's chances of signing Koke look slim this summer.

Ahead of the January transfer window, one of the names most frequently linked to Manchester United was highly rated Spaniard, Koke.

The midfielder was called into the senior Spain squad last Autumn thanks to his performances at Atletico Madrid, where he has more assists than Cesc Fabregas this season, at 13 the highest in La Liga.

United's interest caused Atletico to step up their own desire to keep the 22-year-old, tying him down to a new contact, with a huge release clause of €60 million.

Rumours linking him to United have nevertheless continued, but after Atletico's march to the Champions League semi-finals, the chances of him swapping the Vicente Calderon for Old Trafford look slim.

While the future at United is unknown, Koke is adamant anything is possible if he stays at Atletico.

After their Champions League win he proclaimed, wrote L'Equipe: "It is spectacular, this team has no limits. We continue to make people dream."

He then told Spanish paper Marca the following day: ""I am very happy and I do not think about leaving the club right now, I am happy at home, I want to continue here and that is why I have a long contract.

"The rumours in the paper will have no impact on my game. I am young, but I am calm. Now is the best moment to enjoy being at Atletico. My future here will be long."

For United it's an opportunity missed. The midfielder could potentially have been tempted away last summer for a bargain price but he seemingly was not on their radar, focusing on Cesc Fabregas and latterly Ander Herrera instead - landing up with neither.

This summer the challenge is to identify the next breakout star like Koke, and snap him up while they can.
