If recent reports are to be believed, Manchester United have been too busy scouting in Portugal to get much done elsewhere. After all, not a week goes by when David Moyes’ scouts are not said to have been at a match involving Sporting Lisbon or Benfica.
But of course those are just some of the stories, and it is often the case that it is the more clandestine scouting missions that ultimately lead to arrivals at a football club.
One such mission may well have occurred on Friday evening, with Inside Futbol publishing quotes from Spartak Moscow’s Aras Ozbiliz, in which he said he knew United were in attendance to watch him play.
However, it did not go as well as he would have liked.
In an interview with Voetbal Primeur, Ozbiliz is quoted as saying, “I know they came to see me playing. But I don’t think they are interested after this match.
“I played my worst game for the last few years.”
As to whether or not United would return to watch him play again, the 24-year-old said, “I don’t want to think about it. I just want to focus on my game.”
Ozbiliz is a right-winger who represents Armenia. He has played 23 Premier Liga matches so far this season, scoring five goals and providing two assists in that time.
While Spartak won 1-0 against KS Samara, the player clearly was not happy with his performance. But only time will tell if the United staff said to be in attendance thought otherwise.
