The Toffees hammered Arsenal 3-0 last weekend to close the gap to just one point, and with the Gunners in FA Cup action this week, Roberto Martinez's side knew a win would take them into the Champions League places - and that's just what they got.
It wasn't quite as pretty as we've come to expect under Martinez, but Wes Brown's own goal was enough to give Everton the 1-0 win at the Stadium of Light, taking the Toffees to their highest ever Premier League points total - with five games still to play.
The supporters are clearly getting more and more excited as the weeks go on, with many truly believing that the club is poised to pinch the final spot in the top four from Arsenal, and they were full or praise for Martinez, who has now led the team to seven consecutive wins.
Defender John Stones and midfielder James McCarthy also singled out for credit in a game that may not have been Everton's best, but they got the three points and that's all that matters at this stage of the season.
#EFC Just about sneaked an invaluable victory, tough game. Special mention to John Stones. The best young English defender for many a year.— John Merro (@johnmerro1) April 12, 2014
Roberto martinez's first season as everton manager and with 5 games left its already our highest points total in the premier league! #efc— Josh Riddaway (@joshridda7) April 12, 2014
Typical blues. Comfortable last week and struggling this week. Still a good three points so can't complain! #EFC— Tom Emanuel (@Tom_Emanuel) April 12, 2014
In past seasons we'd have lost that and let our season unravel, today was all about the win and we move onto the next one #EFC— Jamie Dunne (@EFCparkender) April 12, 2014
'orrible stuff at times, but never going to win seven in a row without a scrappy one in there. Barry star man again, deulofeu did well. #efc— Joe Scott (@litanyoftittery) April 12, 2014
