Portuguese newspaper A Bola has picked up on reports from Sport Mediaset which claim former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has been offered a €4million one-year deal from Juventus.
The report claims the offer has been made to the Ivory Coast striker’s representative, with the forward’s current deal with Galatasaray set to expire this summer.
There is reportedly an option for a one-year extension with the Turkish side, but at 36, Drogba may feel he has one last move in him.
And yet there is an alternative possibility that may not be original but should certainly be considered, and that is for the striker to return to Chelsea.
He may be getting on a bit, but Drogba’s goals this season prove he still has what it takes to play at the highest level. And just as Jose Mourinho did with Samuel Eto’o this season, he could take Drogba on for a year and use him alongside or as back-up for the world-class front-man likely to be heading to Stamford Bridge this summer.
If Juventus are prepared to make a move for Drogba, why not Chelsea; after all, both clubs will be competing in the Champions League, both will be challenging for league and domestic cup honours, and both will need as many able goal-scorers as they can get.
Drogba’s impact would also be considerable in the dressing room and in the stands – a returning legend giving the Blues a boost regardless of what the rest of this season has in store.
For €4million, it could be the smartest money Mourinho has spent in a long time.
