Arsenal are through to the FA Cup final but my lord didn’t they go about making it the hard way.
They scraped past Wigan Athletic on penalties after a 1-1 draw after extra time - with a performance hardly fitting finalists.
But even before the game had started many an Arsenal fan doubted their team’s chances - after Yaya Sanogo was named as the starting striker for The Gunners.
Arsene Wenger had sprung a surprise by starting the young Frenchman against Bayern Munich in the Champions League earlier this season - and another big game rolled around in which he felt Olivier Giroud was not up to scratch.
The reaction to the decision was mixed.
Of course there were those Arsenal fans who were left completely bemused by the decision of their boss.
Giroud, for all his failures, is an accomplished goalscorer. In the FA Cup he has been in great form - and it was he who killed off Everton in the last round.
Sanogo on the other hand is just a kid - a kid who has not yet scored for the club. Talk about in at the deep end.
But on the flip-side there were those who were more than happy to see the youngster get the nod, as in recent weeks Gunners fans have tired of Giroud’s performances.
Languid, slow and cumbersome - he has certainly not been in top form of late.
Not only that, but in the Premier League his shooting boots have deserted him - one goal in his last six appearances.
It is his lack of pace that has mostly worried Arsenal fans a situation they hoped would be addressed by Sanogo’s introduction.
In truth Sanogo didn’t play poorly. He has many qualities; however composed finisher does not look like one of them.
He is quite quick and clearly dangerous in the air but in terms of his decision making - he pales to his older compatriot Giroud.
It was a gamble from Wenger, one I personally feel made little difference to their attack, and perhaps only destabilised their best forward this season.
Giroud came on and changed the game. Frustrating as he might be he is still by far the best Arsenal have got.
Here is what Arsenal fans thought when they saw Sanogo’s name on the team-sheet…
Anyone remember Chris Wreh starting & scoring the only goal of the game in the semi against Wolves in 98? Now it's Sanogo's time. #DoAWreh— Moh Haider (@ArsenalMoh8) April 12, 2014

I don't think starting Sanogo is the way to go today, he's hardly the most prolific and Giroud has 5 in 5 for the FA cup— And Its Arsenal (@LewisD28) April 12, 2014
This unrepentant nepa pole nosed Frenchman is joking with our cup aspiration again. The clown is starting Sanogo in attack. Hoe ma ga o!— I'm Bada by far! (@BadaAkintundeJ) April 12, 2014
