Jose Mourinho wants to sign Real Madrid star Luka Modric according to the Spanish press.
Jose Mourinho is not short of quality attacking options behind the striker, with Eden Hazard, Andre Schurrle, Willian and Mohamed Salah competing with Oscar for a place in Chelsea’s starting XI.
The Brazilian international, however, has been one of the Blues’ most outstanding performers this season and at just 22-years-old, he has bags of potential to improve.
The trust Mourinho has in him is evident, with Oscar being one of the most-used players by starting 22 Premier League fixtures – Chelsea’s seventh highest.
It appears though that his excellent form hasn’t gone unnoticed. French champions Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with a mega-money offer in the past, and now it is believed that Mourinho will use him as makeweight to bring in Real Madrid’s Luka Modric.
The Chelsea boss was the man who gave Modric his chance at Madrid after signing him in the summer of 2012 whilst managing in the Spanish capital. However, the Croatian has performed far better under Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti.
Despite Chelsea and Real Madrid being well-known for making big money transfers, this one appears simply too far-fetched.
The Portuguese boss recently said it would take a deal worth a reported €360m to prise away Oscar and Hazard from Stamford Bridge, whereas Luka Modric is in the running for Real Madrid Player of the Year and his importance in the team is well-documented.
Whilst a deal of this magnitude would certainly dominate this summer’s headlines, it’s safe to say Chelsea and Real Madrid fans can relax at the prospect of such a deal taking place.
