A successful week for Chelsea was topped off with two of their outstanding performers making the weekly UEFA Team of the Week.
Chelsea defender Gary Cahill was instrumental in thwarting the ambitions of Edinson Cavani during his side’s 2-0 victory over Champions League opponents Paris Saint-Germain.
Chelsea’s other player who made the cut is attacking midfielder Andre Schurrle. The German international started the Champions League tie on the bench, but replaced the injured Eden Hazard after just 18 minutes.
And Schurrle's opening goal set Chelsea on their way to a memorable comeback. The 23-year-old was excellent throughout, executing four shots and making five turnovers – more than any other player on the pitch.
Joining Schurrle in UEFA’s Team of the Week is fellow German international and Manchester United linked star Marco Reus.
Borussia Dortmund’s most-wanted star scored two goals and made five key passes as Jurgen Klopp’s men defeated Real Madrid 2-0, although it wasn’t quite enough to deny the Spanish side a place in the semi-finals.
The 24-year-old attacking midfielder would be a perfect addition for Manchester United side, although only an offer in the region of €40m would be deemed sufficient to prise him away.
Another Manchester United linked player also made the list, although unfortunately for United fans, Atletico Madrid’s Koke appears to be staying put. The Spanish international scored the only goal as Diego Simeone’s impressive side defeated Barcelona 1-0 and advanced into the Champions League semi-finals with a 2-1 aggregate win.
