Manchester United latest: Rooney’s toe update and £200m transfer plans

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney could be rested after suffering a chipped bone in his toe.

This came following reports Wayne Rooney could miss the rest of the season with the toe injury.

Midfielder Darren Fletcher has admitted the players are playing for their future with wholesale changes expected to be made this summer by manager David Moyes.

"It is time to show the manager that you deserve to be at this club," Fletcher said.

"If you get a chance to play, you have to go and impress the manager and show him that you are capable of being here next year. Go and put in performances because the manager will be thinking of next season, no doubt about that. You have to make sure that you are one of the names that he still wants."

In transfer news, The Mirror reports United are considering their £200 million wish list targets which, they say, include William Carvalho and Toni Kroos.

However, The Guardian reports United accept that their chances of signing Kroos are ‘remote’ without the Champions League.

In other news, the BBC have considered the financial cost of the club missing out on the Champions League.

According to the report, could lose around £40-50 million, which represents around 10% of their expected revenue.

The Metro likens United to Manchester City asserting the club will ‘buy their way’ back into the Champions League this summer.

Finally, Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley were spotted dancing in the street hours after United’s defeat at Bayern Munich. The pair were on a night out with Ashley Young.
