Last summer as Romelu Lukaku was trying to judge whether he’d get a fair crack of the whip at Chelsea, he admitted that a good move for him would be Jurgen Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund.
Lukaku was looking for a club that would be able to offer him regular first team football and the appeal of BVB was huge considering their achievements over the last few years.
“I still need to grow and for that I need to have time to play during the next season. Dortmund would be a good choice,” he was quoted by the Sun.
The bad news for Chelsea and the good news for the striker is that German newspaper Bild has reported that Dortmund are interested in the Belgian al over again ahead of a possible move this summer.
There have been plenty of reports in recent times, which have suggested that Jose Mourinho is happy to let Lukaku leave Chelsea this summer if he gets around £17 million in the process.
Dortmund need to increase their attacking options due to the fact Robert Lewandowski has become the latest of their attacking stars to jump ship and head off to play for their rivals Bayern Munich.
BVB’s chances of getting the 20-year-old are increased by the fact they are not a direct domestic rival to Chelsea and can play on that in any transfer negotiation process.
It’s much more likely that Chelsea would sell Lukaku to a team like Dortmund over doing a permanent deal with Everton or any other Premier League side interested in him such as Arsenal or Tottenham Hotspur.
There’s even still the remote chance that Mourinho could use him in his attacking pack next season but if an exit is the only option in the eyes of the boss, Dortmund are a very good option for the player.
