Chelsea chief on transfer market approach: We will strengthen if…

Speaking at the Champions League draw, a Blues representative has indicated that they will look at who is available.

"I keep hearing these things," said Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay after witnessing his side draw Atletico Madrid in the semifinal of the Champions League in Nyon, Switzerland.

The things Gourlay is speaking of is the consensus opinion outside of Stamford Bridge - and even within it when looking at statements made by manager Jose Mourinho - that, despite the club's riches, despite their capacity ground and despite their abundance of quality in their squad, they still lack what their Champions League opponents Atletico Madrid have and also what their Premier League title rivals Liverpool and Manchester City have - elite-level strikers.

Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto'o have scored the odd crucial goal throughout the campaign in all competitions, however, not one of them is a prolific goalscorer who can be continually relied upon in each and every match akin to, say, Diego Costa, Luis Suarez or Sergio Aguero.

"People say we need to strengthen the team but with five games to go we're in the shake-up of the toughest league in the world and competing in the Champions League!" responded Gourlay.

Regardless, Regardless, Chelsea have been linked with supreme talents from Europe, including Edinson Cavani, Mario Mandzukic and, of course, Costa - all of whom are reportedly available at the right price.

"If the right players are available we'll strengthen," confirmed Gourlay on the club's projected activity when the summer market opens for trading.
