Arsenal must hope Powell doesn't repeat his last Wembley performance

Crewe Gresty Road

Can Manchester United loanee Nick Powell fire Wigan Athletic to glory this weekend like he did Crewe Alexandra in 2012?

This weekend sees Arsenal go toe-to-toe with Wigan Athletic for a place in the FA Cup Final - and The Lactics are at close to full capacity.

One area, in cup matches especially, which often sees players miss out regards loan players.

Indeed Wigan are without Rob Kiernan and Martyn Waghorn - but four other top names are all in contention for a starting spot.

Josh McEachran, Nicky Maynard, Jack Collison and one other player - one who will hope to be taking on Arsenal many more times in his career - will be in contention for the game.

That player is Nick Powell.

The attacking midfielder is on loan at the club from Manchester United - where he will be hoping to have an impact next season after an impressive spell out on loan this term.

It has been a struggle for the player recently however - he recently missed two months of the season with a hamstring problem - but he is back and ready for action with Uwe Rosler’s side.

And if he produces anything like his previous visit to Wembley - well Wigan are in for a fun day out.

The last time he featured at the home of football was in May 2012 - just weeks before he joined United for a fee in the region of £6 million.

That was for Crewe Alexandra in the League Two play-off final against Cheltenham Town - when he produced this moment of absolute magic…

Powell knows the world’s eyes will be watching him in action this weekend - and that many a United fan will want to see him dumping their old foes out of the competition.

So a repeat of his last Wembley performance would certainly go down well back at his parent club.
