It was a quite inconsequential and trivial post on his official Facebook page - probably put up by a PR worker on his behalf - but Thibaut Courtois’s Facebook account has been pretty busy this afternoon.
The Belgian goalkeeper had this posted up just moments after the draw was announced - and if Atletico had drawn anyone other than who they did we imagine the likes would not be at the 12,051 point as they are at the time of writing.
But they didn’t - Atletico got Chelsea.
Courtois has been on loan at the Vicente Calderon for three seasons now from Chelsea and now an affair is brewing as to whether he should be allowed to play.
Chelsea reportedly do not want to face him - on case of the potential embarrassment a stunning performance from the Belgian could cause.
Meanwhile Uefa have made it clear that such an agreement would be against the spirit of the game and it is believed Atletico would not want to muddy the relationship the clubs have developed and therefore ruin their chances of getting the player on loan again next season.
It is a sure-fire mess and one that may not be clarified until the clubs actually meet.
Wait until we get closer, and I would hazard a bet on Courtois picking up a ‘knock’.
And that like count has risen to 12,539 in the last ten minutes … this story is going to rumble on and on and on.
