Predicted Manchester City XI to play Liverpool - Same side that beat the Saints!

Match to be played on Sunday 13th April 2014 at 13:37. Venue: Anfield, Liverpool.

The games don’t come much bigger than this for Manchester City as they look to take a step closer to a second Premier League title within three years.

Anfield hasn’t been an easy place for Liverpool’s rivals to go to so far this season and this weekend is no different. However, Pellegrini’s men will be confident following a comprehensive performance against Southampton last weekend.

Here’s the side Pellegrini could name for the match.

GK – Joe Hart

Hart is one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League and someone who will probably be one of the first names down on the team sheet.

RB – Pablo Zabaleta

Zabaleta is a very complete right-back. He’s difficult to get the better of defensively and he provides good width on the right.

CB – Vincent Kompany

This is a huge match for the Belgian because if Liverpool start as they have done against some of the bigger sides, teammates will be looking at him for inspiration.

CB – Martin Demichelis

Demichelis just needs to play smart and sensible football in this game because Luis Suarez will see him as a weakness and is likely to drift onto him throughout.

LB – Aleksandar Kolarov

Kolarov is a similar player to Zabaleta in the respect that he’s difficult to muscle off the ball and he gets forward well.

RM – Jesus Navas

Navas should keep his place because Pellegrini is likely to realise that City may have to counter attack frequently. Therefore, it’s important they have natural width and pace.

CM – Yaya Toure

Toure will slot straight into the midfield if he’s managed to shake off the knock he picked up against the Saints.

CM – Fernandinho

He’s improved dramatically throughout the course of the season. City need all parts of his game to be spot on if they’re going to win this midfield battle.

AM – David Silva

The Spaniard is capable of controlling possession in front of the Liverpool defence. City will try and get the ball to him as quickly as possible.

LM – Samir Nasri

Nasri is another player who can drift into central positions and control things. He can also switch flanks and play down the right.

ST – Edin Dzeko

This is a tough one for Pellegrini because he could be tempted to play Alvaro Negredo. However, Dzeko has probably done just enough to stay in the side.
