Newcastle need to bounce back from three consecutive defeats this weekend but face a tough trip to Stoke City, who have lost just two home games this season, and Magpies boss Alan Pardew believes it's time for his players to put on a show for a fan base who are desperate for a strong end to the season.
“The last couple of results have been tough for us and we’ve not been at a level we’ve been at previously," said Pardew. “We need to deliver a level of performance to win games and I think we can do that. We’ve played some tough games. Those last three games would be tough on anyone’s schedule but we like to think we would give a better performance and get better results than we have," he added.
Newcastle' bid to end the season on a high will be boosted by the impending return of full back Mathieu Debuchy. The French full back is set to miss the Stoke game this weekend, but is now expected to return to the first team in time to face Swansea City later this month.
Debuchy is expected to return from a groin injury this month, and will be hoping for a strong end to the season in order to guarantee his spot in Laurent Blanc's French squad for the World Cup this summer, where he is going to be competing with Arsenal's Bacary Sagna for a place in the starting XI.
Meanwhile, fellow full back Davide Santon is being linked with a move away from Tyneside following a frustrating season. The Italian defender is now a reported target for Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Montella, as he looks to take the 23-year-old back to Serie A this summer.
