Arsenal morning news: Crocked Rodriguez linked; legend says FA Cup over fourth

All the latest news and gossip from the past 24 hours at The Emirates.

Crocked Southampton star Jay Rodriguez will have his return to fitness monitored by the club as Arsenal consider a move for the player.

J-Rod has been in superb form for The Saints this season - and looked set to go to the World Cup with England this summer.

However, he suffered serious knee damage v Manchester City last weekend and is now set to be ruled out of action for six months.

Liverpool and Spurs are also said to be keen - depending on his recovery.

Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman believes that Arsenal need FA Cup glory more than they need to finish in the top four of the Premier League.

The Gunners pursuit of Champions League football took a heavy dent recently when Everton thrashed them 3-0 at Goodison Park - to move within one point of them in the race for fourth spot with a game in hand.

And Seaman believes the team need silverware - ahead of their FA Cup semi-final against Wigan Athletic this weekend:

"I would take winning the FA Cup over finishing top four. Arsenal have been in the Champions League since it began. That has - apparently - become nothing. It's a great achievement, but we want to win something and the FA Cup would be great.”

It is reported that a section of the Arsenal team do not believe that Arsene Wenger is preparing his team for games correctly.

They believe he is not working enough on then opposition - in the way Jose Mourinho at Chelsea does - and that leaves them open to exposure by the likes of Romelu Lukaku for example at the weekend.

Wenger concentrates on Arsenal’s strengths rather than the opponents - but senior players are worried that is costing them against the better teams.
