Arsenal are reportedly set to move in on Everton defender John Stones. The former Barnsley full-back has been transformed into a cultured centre-back in recent times as Phil Jagielka has been out of action through injury.
The Metro believe that the defender impressed Arsene Wenger recently in the 3-0 defeat against The Toffees - after Arsenal looked at him whilst a Barnsley player.
He can also offer cover for right-back - with Bacary Sagna set to leave in the summer.
Everton however would be reluctant to sell the player for anything less than a large fee.
Ian Wright has backed Arsene Wenger for success. The former Gunners striker has recently been unsure of the Frenchman’s future - but he now appears to want his former boss to stay and come good:
"I've never been one to call for the manager. But what I want him to do is to spend the kind of money that's going to get Arsenal to compete properly with Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool, who are emerging. If Arsene can get the money and get those players, they can get to that level.
Martinez, who has Romelu Lukaku, Gareth Barry and Gerard Deulofeu all on loan at the club has hit back - stating:
"I accept everyone's opinion but the loan system has to be part of the game. Clearly from our point of view the loan system was vital as we needed it to finish our squad and to criticise that would be ridiculous. If you can be creative with the way you can use your resources that is part of the game.”
“All I'm thinking about is the game against Celta and helping my team. It was just something I wanted to deny, that's all. People can say whatever they want, after that. I know what I want and what I am thinking.”
