Thiago Alcantara accidentally rubbed salt in the wounds after United crashed out of Europe to Bayern Munich.
This summer saw plenty of teams linked with the signature of Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara - especially after he starred in the Spanish Under-21 Championships this summer.
His contract with Barcelona now included a very affordable release clause thanks to him not playing enough games for the Catalan club and the two teams most heavily linked with his signature were Manchester United and Bayern Munich. Seeing as he was available at €25 million it made perfect sense.
But in the end he went to Bayern Munich - as Pep Guardiola pursued a player he had high hopes for when at Barca.
He struggled early on after suffering a knee injury but has since gone on to regain his fitness and become an integral part of the Bayern first-team.
However injury has struck again - before he had the chance to take on the other team that reportedly wanted to sign him in the summer.
He was ruled out of both United ties with more knee trouble - so was prevented the opportunity of showing Moyes and co what they were missing out on.
But his side still got the job done - defeating United 4-2 on aggregate after a 3-1 win in the Allianz Arena last night.
And although Patrice Evra gave the Bavarians a massive scare the best team certainly won - and Thiago is probably sure he made the right choice.
And he has also been celebrating the performance on Twitter.
He posted a celebratory Tweet after the game to show his allegiance to Bayern Munich - but who knows how United’ season would have panned out should they have gotten hold of Thiago last summer…
