How the legend of Wenger is attracting players to Arsenal

Serge Aurier looks set to snub two European giants for Arsenal.

The Daily Mail claims Toulouse right-back will snub Ligue One giants PSG and Monaco to join Arsenal this summer.

Arsenal’s attempts to get Bacary Sagna tied down a new long term deal appear to have been fruitless and Arsene Wenger has done well to identify the 21-year-old as a replacement who seems to want a move to North London above everything else.

It’s an all the more remarkable achievement by Wenger to attract such a talent when there is still a great deal of confusion over his own role at the Emirates as well as the possibility the Gunners could end another season without any silverware to show for it.

For all the criticism which has been angled and Wenger over the last couple of weeks, he remains one of the highest profile and famous managers in the world, which counts in the eyes of some players tempted to join the club.

A move to PSG or Monaco would be much more lucrative for Aurier and even easier but he seems keen to opt for Arsenal and Wenger is a large part of that.

“You cannot turn down Arsenal. PSG and Monaco are building - but it is the English league that makes me dream. It is a bit crazy, where smaller clubs can beat the big ones,” said the Ivory Coast star.

The legend of Wenger in a transfer sense is based on investing in good value transfer targets, working hard with them and developing them into world class performers at the highest level.

Last summer showed that Wenger can attract superstars with the huge investment made in Mesut Ozil but deals similar to the one it would take to secure Aurier are what he’s more commonly known for.

Aurier’s comments also suggest that he holds a belief that Wenger’s achievements in English football are made all the more remarkable because of how competitive the Premier League has become.

Arsenal fans will rightly point out that this is only part of the transfer tactic Wenger should be adopting this summer as the club look set to offer him a new deal regardless of the club’s fortunes by mid-May.

Arsenal are short in key areas such as up front and they do need extra pace out wide and another defender in the squad. However, the legend of Wenger is attracting players to Arsenal reportedly ahead of sides who pose very attractive prospects.

That’s undoubtedly one positive Wenger creates despite no silverware for nearly ten years.
