Santi Cazorla never got the chance to play alongside Robin van Persie for Arsenal, arriving days before his transfer to Manchester United in 2012.
Yet the Spaniard recognises the Dutchman's supreme talent, and has highlighted the striker's transfer to United as the calibre of signing Arsenal require if they are to kick on.
He told website Sport360: "We have to improve at crucial moments and sign the best football players because if you don’t do that, you may lag behind others.
“That is what makes it different at other clubs. You’ve a good example in Manchester City who signed Fernandiho, (Alvaro) Negredo... or even Manchester United with (Robin) Van Persie and (Juan) Mata.
“Arsenal know what they need next season, but it’s almost impossible to win a title if we haven’t got these kind of things.”
United may be suffering a down year at present but that's more owing to a change of manager, combined with poor transfers last summer - almost emphasising Cazorla's point.
Arsenal put all their eggs in one basket with the signing of Ozil, but the German has already admitted a lack of pre-season with the club has hampered his progress.
Van Persie was the key reason Manchester United won the Premier League in 2011/12, as the Red Devils elected to sign a proven striker who could lead them to success.
This is precisely what Arsenal need if they are to kick on, and while the Dutchman has recently re-affirmed his commitment to United, the Gunners need to try to find a player who can make the similar type of impact he did at Old Trafford if they are to win trophies.
