The omen! A Schweinsteiger stat that gives United hope

Bastian Schweinsteiger Injured In Bayern Munich Training

Statistically, Bayern Munich in the past two-seasons have only recorded a 50% win-rate when missing Bastian Schweinsteiger in the Champions League.

The staggering statistic proves just how influential to the Bayern Munich set-up the German international is, especially in the Champions League

The midfielder is renowned as one of the best in the world, which isn't surprising considering the importance of him to both, the European champions and the German national team.

He was, in fact, the saviour for Bayern in their last match against United, although he was later vilified for his sending off after a controversial foul on Wayne Rooney. However, at the time I doubt many knew the significance of the 29-year-old's sending off.

In the past two-seasons, Bayern Munich have played in six Champions League games without Schweinsteiger, winning three and losing three. However, the three games lost by Munich in the past two-seasons have proved to be their only failings in the competition.

Last season, when Munich won the Champions League, Schweinsteiger missed four games. The first loss was an unexpected one to BATE Borisov, in which they crumbled 3-1. The next two losses, to the delight of Manchester United fans, were both at home to Premier League sides.

Both Manchester City and Arsenal have been to the Allianz Arena, faced a Schweinsteiger-less Bayern, and come away victorious.

Now it's up to David Moyes and his Manchester United side to go to Germany and prove the critics wrong by progressing to the Champions League semi-finals.
