Manchester United fans woke up this morning to claims that Toni Kroos had told his Bayern Munich teammates he was ready to move to Old Trafford.
With not a single quote to back up said rumour, there is no reason for those fans to get any more or less excited than they may have been previously at the prospect of the German international aiding the transformation of their midfield. And in truth the fact that United face Bayern tomorrow evening says more about the timing of the latest story than anything else.
But the latest "twist" follows claims in recent days that claimed Pep Guardiola would only sanction Kroos' departure if he was given Adnan Januzaj in exchange.
Given that the Belgian-born attacker is the closest United have had to a young Cristiano Ronaldo since the Portuguese left for Real Madrid, the likelihood of that particular swap occurring was slim-to-none. And now former player turned journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft has concurred.
Fjortoft specialises in the Bundesliga and has had plenty to say about United in the past. But when asked if there was any substance to the Kroos-Januzaj swap stories, the former striker answered simply but emphatically.
'No chance!!!' he wrote on his official Twitter account.
But expect the rumours to keep coming until Kroos either rocks up at Old Trafford or signs a new deal at the Allianz Arena.
