Mexes wants to stay at Milan

AC Milan

AC Milan defender Philippe Mexes has insisted that he wants to stay at San Siro despite recent transfer speculation.

AC Milan defender Philippe Mexes has declared that he will respect the remainder of his contract with the Rossoneri and could even renew it.

There have been reports this season that the French star is unsettled and keen to find a fresh start elsewhere.

Milan's Serie A rivals Fiorentina were strongly linked with Mexes during the winter transfer window but nothing came of the interest.

But things are increasingly harmonious at Milan who won their third consecutive game with a 2-1 triumph over Genoa last night and Mexes seems to be happy where he is.

"I still have a year on my contract and I will respect that," Mexes told Sky Sport Italia after the final whistle.

"I am 32 years old and I'm not just on the look out for money. I came to Milan because my contract at Roma expired and I wanted to be here for the place.

"The team is on the right track. It hasn't been easy but Clarence Seedorf has managed to rebuild us and the fact we aren't conceding the goals we were is a good thing.

"When things were difficult it wasn't that we weren't united when we went out on the field, we were in turmoil."
