It was almost quite embarrassing for Jose Mourinho.
After his spectacular run down the touchline, doubling up as a celebration and way to give out last minute tactical instructions, had Chelsea conceded, he would not have lived it down.
And they so almost did, with a late save required at his near post to deny Marquinhos what would have been a winner in injury time.
Thankfully Petr Cech was up to the task, saving to secure Chelsea a passage to the semi-finals.
ITV pundit Roy Keane was one who certainly would not have been impressed had the effort gone it.
He said: "He's got to save those. If that had gone in he'd have deserved shooting."
Reminded by fellow panellist Lee Dixon that he did save it Keane responded: "Yeah but that's his job."
It may just have been Jose Mourinho doing the shooting had Cech conceded the effort and sent Chelsea crashing out.
