PHOTOS: Injury boost for Manchester United as striker trains ahead of Bayern clash

United were said to be sweating on the fitness of Wayne Rooney ahead of their biggest match of the season.

There is some good news for Manchester United fans today with pictures emerging of Wayne Rooney in training ahead of their Champions League quarter-final tie against Bayern Munich.

With the tie delicately poised at 1-1, and United needing to score in order to progress, their fans will be encouraged at the sight of their joint top scorer in all competitions in training after missing the weekend’s 4-0 win against Newcastle United with a toe injury.

Pictures have emerged on twitter from a couple of sources of Rooney taking part in training ahead of the squad’s trip to Munich.

There were fears that Rooney would miss United’s biggest match of the season as they look to pull off a shock at the Allianz Arena with Pep Guardiola’s Bayern side still the heavy favourites to qualify despite the encouraging display from United at Old Trafford last week – where Nemanja Vidic gave David Moyes’s team the lead before Bastian Schweinsteiger equalised for the European champions.

Bayern boss Guardiola has said he is '100% sure' Rooney will line-up against his side. Ryan Giggs, Jonny Evans and Patrice Evra were all said to have taken part in training with Marouane Fellaini an absentee.
