Chelsea face a goalkeeping conundrum as Thibaut Courtois continues to impress on loan to Atletico Madrid while Petr Cech holds the fort at Stamford Bridge.
There have been rumours that Jose Mourinho will recall Courtois to West London next season, leaving Cech's future unclear.
Italian custodian Carlo Cudicini was at Chelsea for more or less a decade and was asked whether he would choose Cech or Courtois.
"On one hand you have Cech who is only 31 and has at least five seasons ahead of him at a high level. On the other there's a youngster who can become one of the best.
"I think that the simplest solution is for Chelsea to extend Courtois' contract and then renew his loan at Atletico Madrid, even if they end up with the same problem next year."
Cudicini also gave his opinion on Chelsea's crunch Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain where they need to fight back from a 3-1 deficit.
"Anything can happen but Chelsea need to attack and take risks," he said. "If they can score in the first 45 minutes then the tie opens up again."
