Today is William Carvalho’s birthday, and it is also the day that Portuguese newspaper A Bola has published quotes from the Sporting Lisbon player’s father regarding the midfielder’s future.
Reportedly a target for Manchester United, the midfielder with the €45million release-clause has been making waves all season with a string of outstanding performances for the Primeira Liga side.
Given that he has only just reached his 22nd birthday, those showings are even more impressive, and it is no surprise that United are said to have scouted him upwards of 15 times.
In desperate need of a midfield enforcer, David Moyes has surely not seen a better candidate than William. The only question now is whether he can get his man considering the likely interest from clubs across Europe.
But if William’s fans think he is good now, his father has some words for you.
As quoted by A Bola, Simon Carvalho said in a message to his son, “These last two years have been successful and I sincerely hope that you continue to grow as a player. I know you were born to win, but you must continue to push hard to get to the top; and to continue to respect everybody.
“The best is yet to come.”
Few who have seen William play this season would disagree. As good as he already is, he has years to improve and is already adding goals to his game on a more consistent basis despite playing predominantly as a defensive midfielder.
Whether he is worth his reported release-clause is up for debate, but in truth there are few players in his position who could transform United as much as he could. So what are you waiting for Mr Moyes? Make your move!
