On this day: PSG threaten Chelsea's Mourinho plans and Liverpool eye Brazilian defender

We look back at some of the main stories on this day last year including news about Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United.

There is plenty for Premier League fans to be talking about this morning as Liverpool regain their place at the top of the Premier League while Arsenal recover from another bad away defeat.

There’s not too much time to go before the end of the season, which means matches increase in importance as fans prepare to either celebrate or work out what went wrong over the course of the summer.

We’ve decided to take a look back on a few stories that were making headlines on this day last year.

‘PSG threaten Chelsea plans’

The idea of Jose Mourinho returning to Stamford Bridge was being well documented around this time last year.

The Portuguese coach wasn’t happy at Real Madrid and appeared to be looking for a way out and French giants Paris Saint-Germain emerged as a rival to Chelsea to get the coach.

The Daily Star claimed there was serious interest in Mourinho from the Qatari owned club.

‘Liverpool eye up Brazilian defender’

Brazilian defender Dede was reportedly a target for Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool, according to the Metro.

Rodgers made several defensive additions to his squad last summer and in the build up to that transfer window, the 25-year-old centre back emerged as a potential target.

However, Dede never made the move to Anfield with Brendan Rodgers deciding go for the additions of Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori.

‘Mancini accuses Premier League teams’

Former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini accused opposition sides of rolling over and effectively handing Manchester United a 20th league crown.

Mancini’s men were chasing United for most of last season as Sir Alex Ferguson’s team responded well to losing their title to their local rivals the season before.

“No-one plays well against United because they only play with fear - Every team that plays against United plays very soft because they think this game is difficult, that they can’t beat them,” Mancini told the Mirror.
