Ian Wright: THIS is the perfect manager Arsenal need to replace Wenger

Roberto Martinez Press Conference Smiling

Arsenal boss Ian Wright believes Roberto Martinez is ideal to replace Arsene Wenger.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez inspired his club to a 3-0 win over Arsenal, to leave themselves in with a huge chance of securing Champions League football.

The Spaniard is enjoying a superb debut season on Merseyside, after taking over from David Moyes last summer.

The quick, and improved, transition has illustrated to Arsenal legend Ian Wright that the manager may just be the man to take over from Arsene Wenger, and avoid a Moyes-style malaise similar to at Manchester United following Sir Alex Ferguson's departure.

Wright told BBC's 606 programme: "I'm thinking about the club without Wenger, and it's hard to think about it. People say be careful what you wish for, but we're in a situation where we look into a void. We should be finishing on a high but we are running out of steam.

"Roberto Martinez, he's the perfect one, if someone said who do you want I'd say Roberto Martinez. Everton fans would say your not having him, but that's the sort of manager to take Arsenal to the next level now."

Wright later added: "I do want him to go (from Everton), if anything happens over at Arsenal, come down."

Martinez also shares similar footballing philosophies to Wenger due to the attractive style of football his teams play, but Wright is certainly correct in that Everton would not give him up easily.

He also showed, during Liverpool's attempt to recruit him a year earlier, that he will not walk away from his sides easily, and look a long time to make his decision to finally quit Wigan despite their relegation last season.

Arsenal meet his former side Wigan Athletic next weekend in the FA Cup, who still possess many of the players and ideals which Martinez managed and instilled at the club over a number of seasons, leading the Latics to winning the trophy last season.
