Arsenal latest: Wenger talks of ‘fear’; Gunners still odds-on for fourth

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Emirates…

ESPN reports that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has suggested some of the side’s heavier defeats away from home this season have taken their toll on the team psychology.

The Gunners lost 3-0 away to Everton on Sunday, leaving them just one point ahead of the Toffees but having played a game more.

Maybe our big defeats away from home have taken something of our charisma away from the team,” Wenger said.

Is that fear? Is that belief? Is that confidence? Maybe a bit of them all together?”

The ability to secure fourth-spot and a place in next season’s Champions League is still in Arsenal’s hands. But one more slip-up and it may not be.

In other news, SkyBet still has Arsenal odds-on to qualify for Europe’s elite competition next season. Sky Sports reports that Wenger’s side are believed to have a more favourable run-in, but they do also have the distraction of a FA Cup semi-final against Wigan Athletic this weekend.

And finally, former Everton manager Joe Royle has been speaking to TalkSport about yesterday’s match.

That was probably the best performance I’ve seen from an Everton side for many a year,” Royle said.

But Arsenal fans are unlikely to take that as any consolation as their great start to the campaign continues to fade away.
