United morning news: Two midfielders linked; Moyes praises Mata

A select round-up of news relating to Manchester United

Speaking after Manchester United’s 4-0 victory against Newcastle United, David Moyes praised the impact of Juan Mata since his arrival at Old Trafford.

The Spaniard scored a brace on Saturday, and the United boss said, “I think Juan Mata has played really well and I think he has made us better.

“He hasn’t had the goals in the earlier games but I really thought he played fine in the games.”

He is playing better than fine now though, having scored three times in little over a week. Now if only he was available for Wednesday.

In other news, the Daily Star Sunday reports that United have been given the go-ahead to move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

The report claims that the German international wants to leave his current club, and following Barcelona’s transfer ban they hint that United could be on the box-seat for his signature.

And finally, the Mirror reports that United may move for Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.

The Frenchman has impressed for the Saints this season, and has already been linked with a possible move to Arsenal.

But now it is Moyes who is said to be interested, although if you believe everything you read United are going to look a lot like Southampton next season, with Luke Shaw and Adam Lallana also consistently linked.
