PHOTO: The Bacary Sagna effect: Everton star’s nasty-looking eye injury

Everton midfielder Leon Osman had to be substituted after a clash with Bacary Sagna.

The Everton maestro’s duel with Bacary Sagna was cut short in this afternoon's Premier League thriller at Goodison Park as a clash between the two resulted in the England international being withdrawn.

With just 10 minutes on the clock, Leon Osman went in for a full-blooded challenge on Arsenal right-back Bacary Sagna.

Unfortunately for Osman he came off worse as the French international landed on him, causing a deep cut to the face.

The 32-year-old Everton star was unable to continue and was immediately replaced by young starlet Ross Barkley.

Fortunately for Roberto Martinez, Osman’s withdrawal didn’t affect the home side’s attacking intuition and they took the lead just five minutes later through Steven Naismith.

Arsenal’s attempts to get back into the game took a huge blow midway through the first-half as Romelu Lukaku doubled the host’s advantage with a fine solo goal.

Leon Osman, meanwhile, was coming around in the medial room and after five stitches needed to fix him up, he could sit back and watch Everton compound Arsenal’s misery with a third goal in the second half.

The 3-0 win moves the Toffees to within one point – with a game in hand - of Arsene Wenger’s men and that all-important final Champions League spot.
